Hi, I proudly announce that I am Manchester Middle School's 6th grade math teacher, Mrs. Murrell. The 2017-2018 school year will be my fourth year at MMS and I could not be more proud to be a teacher in Meriwether County! I graduated from Columbus State University in 2013 with a degree in Middle Grades Education: Math. I will graduate December 2017 and earn my masters in Curriculum and Instruction at CSU. Also, I am on the downhill slide of earning my Gifted Certification. I was awarded 2017's Teacher of the Year award for Manchester Middle School AND Meriwether County's Teacher of the Year, which I do not speak of lightly (I cried!).
From when I can remember, math has been something I enjoyed. Discovering the various routes (strategies) there are to reach one destination (the answer) has always sparked an interest in me. My goal is to instill at least an ounce of passion, excitement, love, and joy I get from learning math into each child that enters my classroom in a way that will build conceptual understanding that will follow them into their successful future. I have expectations for every student to aim high, achieve, graduate, and succeed. In math class, it is common to see us creating, building, discovering, laughing, taking pictures, recording videos, inventing, hugging, smiling, dancing, singing, competing, discoursing, and playing. Do not mistaken the mess, the technology, the chaos, the noise, the music, and the emotions with anything but LEARNING. I believe in building a "family" inside and outside of those classroom doors in order for my students to reach their highest potential in math. Most of the time I am teaching math, but other times I teach life lessons. As the students challenge themselves to become young, bright, math-loving educators, I will be their helping hand, their guidance, facilitator, and cheerleader. Every success -big or little will be praised, but it is an important reminder that we reach our biggest successes through many trial and errors; therefore, mistakes are welcome in my classroom in order for growth.
It is imperative you are aware that in order for us to reach our highest potential, my students (your children) and I need YOUR support. I am beyond excited to watch each one of your children grow inside my classroom. I look forward to an awesome year as we all teach, learn, and grow together.
Lastly, you must be aware that I do not take my job lightly. This is my DREAM job and my PASSION! I strive to be the best teacher for your child by involving their interests into my math lessons. I love making the impossible possible, so there is no telling what I have up my sleeve when it comes to engaging your child in math class. I look forward to reaching new heights with an exciting year of learning and memories with your child.
